Charlie Musselwhite, a famous American bluesman, has confirmed that Ed Vedder is working on Sean Penn's next film project, 'Into the wild', which Penn wrote and directed. Musselwhite has recently been in a Seattle studio with Ed Vedder and Sean Penn, working on the soundtrack to Penn's latest movie, due out 21 September (U.S. release date). It is based on the book 'Into the wild' by Jon Krakauer and is about the young, idealistic Christopher McCandless, who abandons life as most of us know it for the Alaskan wilderness. Cast and other movie info are available at this Imdb page. At the moment, there is no specific information about the songs that Ed Vedder wrote for the movie and the soundtrack release date has not yet been determined.

In other news, the Seattle Times has recently reported that Sean Penn (with wife Robin Wright Penn) has been seen with Pearl Jam's singer after the "Grey's Anatomy" Look-Alike contest at Hotel Monaco, in Seattle, on May 17. The actor and the musician are rumored to be collaborating on Penn's next film project. More info to come soon.

Eddie Vedder’s love for Sean Penn films has become a full-on crush. The Pearl Jam frontman will release an entire album of solo compositions for Into the Wild, a new film directed by Penn. Vedder has previously performed songs for Penn vehicles Dead Man Walking (”Long Road”) and I Am Sam (The Beatles’ “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away”). He’ll also have a small role in the film, Vedder’s first since playing the drummer of Matt Dillon’s band, Citizen Dick, in Cameron Crowe’s 1992 film Singles.

Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder has written an entire album's worth of original songs for Sean Penn's new directorial effort, "Into The Wild," that stars Emile Hirsch. The soundtrack CD featuring music in the film and inspired by the movie will essentially be the closest thing Vedder has ever come to releasing a solo album and is due September 18. According to IMDB, the film is scheduled for a September 21 release and Academy Award winner composer Gustavo Santaolalla ("Babel," Brokeback Mountain") has also contributed original instrumental score for the film.

Based on the John Krakauer novel about the mysterious Alaskan adventure of wanderer Christopher McCandless, Vedder is no stranger to songs written for film, or working with Sean Penn. The throaty tenored grunge singer wrote two songs for Tim Robbins' "Dead Man Walking" directorial effort (which starred Penn) that featured the late Qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (Vedder covered the Beatles' "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" for the Sean Penn film, "I Am Sam," among lots of other small contributions to film, but this is his first real solo effort).

The trailer confirms the PJ's singer participation and says "original songs by Eddie Vedder" (and it also appears that Vedder has a small role in the film as he is in the cast credits as well).

Much of the film was also shot in Seattle which explains some if not all of the Vedder connection. The trailer also features "He Lays in the Reigns," a track from the recent Iron & Wine and Calexico collaborative album.

The fim's shoot was apparently pretty physical and intense. Emile Hirsch told EW, "The first day of shooting, I was supposed to climb over this hill in the snow and walk down this big slope. I was up to my waist in snow and I was trying to climb back up the hill at the end of a take, and the prop guy throws down this rope so I can pull myself up. I can't even see anybody. I'm literally on my own with a 30-pound backpack on. And I hear Sean go, ''No way, don't help him!'' I had to climb up this snow hill and we did, like, 12 takes of that scene. My muscles were so sore."

oui, c'est ce qui a l'air de se dire .... bon ... une soundtrack bien rempli par Vedder .... mais avec un Vedder qui ne se lache pas comme il pourrait le faire, car cause respect du film ....

Ca fait quand même quelques nouvelles chansons de Vedder...Qu'il se lache ou pas, film ou pas, restons concentré sur l'essentiel : du nouveau matos!!

je suis bien d'accord !!! yeahhhhh !!!!

j'espère vraiment que ce sera intéressant.
Mais je ne peux qu'admettre que ça m'inquiète. Cet homme-là a, en solo, un certain goût pour la petite ballade bluesy entendue mille fois, souvent sauvée par sa seule voix.
je prie tout ce que je peux pour que ce soit un minimum inspiré et pas un truc "insipide"
