notes:
Another upbeat show with the band in good form but the audience behaving badly. Ed speaks a few lyrics from the "broken faces" part of Stereolab's 'Noise of Carpet' after the 'Daughter' improvs. (The Improv merging after 'Daughter' is apparently created on the spot and references a sad letter to Ed from a young fan [Nino], with the "hey, hey, it's OK" part having a comforting feel.) After a cranked 'RVM,' he says, "OK, in this hand is a fast song and in this hand is a slower song," (prompting the crowd to pick). Then, "Since you couldn't decide, let's put the two of them together," leading to 'I Got Shit' and 'Whipping.' A fan makes it on stage during 'Alive' and sings a bit. The first encore begins with Ed talking about how the band decided to enroll in a French class at the local university, but they kept coming up with excuses not to attend. After a crack about Mike visiting the grave of his dead uncle, Jim Morrison, Mike plays a little riff, prompting the band to go into a quite unexpected, short version of The Doors' 'Roadhouse Blues.' (Cool!) mp3 soundbyte of 'Roadhouse Blues' (2,516k)
He finishes the story saying that though they never made it to the French classes, he was able to find time to write the next song, leading to 'Sometimes.'

The Pearl Jam Concert on November, 7th 1996 was my first Pearl Jam Concert and I didn't regret it. As I'm working for a radio station in Luxemburg (Europe) I got a free ticket for this gig. Arrived in Paris and I had many problems to get this ticket because the responsible people didn't know what Luxemburg is. Well... finally after a lot of discussions, I got my ticket and I entered just at the moment the Fastbacks had finished. I worry about that but the following show of Pearl Jam was a really great consolation.
They started with Wash. The first moment I saw the band, I really couldn't believe it. There they were and at the middle of the stage this man wearing a black leather jacket. It was Eddie! After this, all went very fast.
During Better Man the whole room was singing with Eddie. During Once, Hail Hail, Even Flow and Jeremy the crowd was really exploding. Before the first encore the band played Alive and Eddie pulled a fan on the stage. They both sang Alive and after the song the fan jumped back into the crowd: Incredible!! The first encore ended up with a very great Porch. After this, the band came back a second time and played Smile. During the last song (Yellow Ledbetter) of the show Mike McCready played a really great guitar solo.
The last thing I would like to mention is that some time during the show Eddie asked to turn on the lights and he just looked at the crowd as he would remember every face he saw. This evening I will never forget in my whole life!! Thanks!
