j'aurai jamais pensé à une association pareil ... mais c'est assez reussi je trouve !!!

j'aime beaucoup ennio morricone ....

METALLICA Guitarist Says His Pet Dog Was Penetrated By Next-Door Neighbor - July 12, 2007

As a child of 11, guitarist Kirk Hammett watched in horror as his pet dog Tippy was penetrated by the guy next door. That's just one of many jaw-dropping facts we learn about ultimate rock monsters METALLICA in the new issue of British magazine Q.

Hammett explains: "I went to my neighbor's. The guy took down his pants and started having sex with the dog! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. When he got up, I just took the dog and left. She was still wagging her tail."

Other key revelations include frontman James Hetfield's jealousy over Hammett and drummer Lars Ulrich's massive consumption of cocaine. "I did not like being around them when they were on that stuff," says the singer. "I resented the closeness they had through their drug use."

What Hetfield and Ulrich did share, though, was their love of groupies.

"Those guys really went for it," recalls bassist Jason Newsted. "Lars would probably be the king as far as that crazy promiscuity goes. Blowjobs under the stage during the bass solo, that kind of stuff."

pour ceux que ça intéresse, voici le résumé de l'analyse faite par l'auteur de "Metallica and Philosophy: A Crash Course in Brain Surgery".

hilosophical Interpretations of 3 Metallica Songs

What follows is a rough transcription of my interpretations given on my BBC interview.

"Master of Puppets"

"Master of Puppets," the song, is most directly about addiction to cocaine and heroine, "needlework the way" and "chop your breakfast on a mirror." You know the lines. Ironically, James Hetfield did not indulge in these drugs though he did have a very serious alcohol addiction, which he wrote about years later in the song "Sweet Amber." The sweet amber of beer and whiskey had ironically become the master of a puppet Hetfield. The addict or alcoholic typically "drinks from the cup of denial,"denying that he has a problem and denying that the troubles in his life are caused by drugs or alcohol. "Blinded by me you can't see a thing."

This song raises the issue of reality, the chief concern of the branch of philosophy known as Metaphysics. Sometimes reality is not what we think it is; what appears to be real is not. Freedom is sometimes just an illusion, as it is for the puppet who is unaware of his strings.

This is a theme in Western philosophy dating back to Plato's allegory of the cave in which prisoners sit chained by the neck and legs looking at shadows on the wall. Unfortunately, the prisoners do not realize that they are prisoners and that their reality is being produced and manipulated by their masters who create the shadow show on the wall. The only thing worse than being a prisoner is being a prisoner and not knowing it.

While the song is most directly about addiction, it can be applied to political matters as well. The master promises to fulfill dreams, but, as it turns out, "promised only lies." People today are more and more concerned that the Big Brother of Orwell's 1984 is watching and manipulating reality. The album cover for Master of Puppets better fits with this concern and in particular with the song "Disposable Heroes," about soldiers who are of no real human value to the War Pigs who send them to their death. And with the war in Iraq and questions about the motives behind the war still looming large in public consciousness, "Disposable Heroes" and "Master of Puppets" are very timely despite being 20 years old.

"One"

Picture this. You've probably been there before. The arena is dark and the stage is empty … suddenly an explosion … then another, and another. Your heart is racing, but your eardrums are still intact to hear Hetfield strum the first few chords of "One." The war zone quiets down in the darkness to let you know that you've entered "the dark night of the soul," a night when only your self seems to exist.

The song "One" raises the issue of knowledge, which is the concern of the branch of philosophy known as epistemology. We want to be in touch with reality, not deceived by a master of puppets. And so to be in touch with reality we need to know what is true and what is false.

As you all know, the song is based on the book and movie Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo. And the video uses footage from the movie. Joe, the soldier who is the narrator of "One" has not only lost his limbs but also lost his ability to speak, to see, and to hear. He's essentially cut off from the world around him. And so at first he has a very difficult time making sense of his situation. As he says, "Can't Tell If this Is True or Dream." This line, by the way, recalls the philosopher Rene Descartes who first raised the problem of how a person could tell the real world from the dream world, a theme also taken up by the movie The Matrix. Think of Neo waking up in that pink gooey pod to find that practically all of humanity is similarly imprisoned in a false reality. Interestingly, Descartes concludes that even if the world is a dream or an illusion, he can still be certain that he is thinking, and so he can be sure he exists. And so we get the famous phrase, "I think therefore I am." Joe is in a similar position—his own mind is the only thing he can truly know.

He's essentially a mind trapped in a body that he cannot use in the normal ways to get in touch with reality. He's trapped in his body like a holding cell. He cannot use his senses of sight and hearing. But clearly, to function fully, body and mind must come together to form a single whole, to form "One."

Joe is "Fed Through the Tube That Sticks in Me / Just like a Wartime Novelty." He describes himself as "Tied to Machines That Make Me Be" and pleads, "Cut this Life off from Me". After all, as he says, "Nothing Is Real but Pain Now." This of course raises the ethical question of whether it's morally permissible to remove the feeding tube that keeps Joe alive. Would removing the tube be murder? Assisted suicide? Or should it be permitted because it allows him to fulfill his wishes? The song raises these questions but really it's up to us to answer them. Metallica are not whiney political rock stars, wearing their causes on their sleeves and shouting about them from the stage. I hate people like that. No, Metallica don't tell us what to think, but they certainly do force us to think for ourselves.

"Wherever I May Roam"

Finally, "Wherever I May Roam." On one level this is a road song, not unlike Bob Seger's "Turn the Page," which Metallica covered. But it's a much deeper song than "Turn the Page." It doesn't just bemoan the hardships of life on the road. I hate songs like that—think of Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive." Boo hoo. Poor rock star. It's a tough liefe with all the sex, drugs, and Rock n roll. "Wherever I May Roam" is different. It speaks to the human condition.

The song begins with the Eastern sounds of the sitar. We're thrown into a journey in a strange land. The journey is life. And we're all on it. None of us asked to be born and none of us got to choose the circumstances into which we were born. It's up to each of us what we'll make of this life. In the song Hetfield resolves to make the best of the situation. As he sings, "the earth becomes my throne / I adapt to the unknown."

The grandest philosophical question of all is: what is the meaning of life? "Wherever I May Roam" fits nicely with the existentialist philosophers, like Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus, who claim that life doesn't have any objective, pre-ordained meaning. Instead life is simply what you make of it. Hetfield's call to "redefine anywhere" has an existential ring to it that calls to mind Satan in Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost. Pondering his situation—thrown out of heaven— Satan says, "The mind is its own place, and in itself, can make heaven of Hell, and a hell of Heaven." Satan is pretty smart.

Consider the lyrics: "Rover wanderer / nomad vagabond / call me what you will." The narrator of the song is an existentialist, a rugged individual, free from societal constraints, not accepting nature or society as defining him. Those trapped in society's mold are just "slaves to the game." Most people flee from the anxiety and responsibility of deciding the meaning of their own life. They conform and pretend they have no choice but to accept the roles society has given them.

Hetfield's narrator is different, as he sings, "and my ties are severed clean / the less I have the more I gain / off the beaten path I reign." Material possessions are a crutch. The less of them I have, the freer I am in my own mind to make the world as I see fit. Ultimately, I am free not only to make art, including songs like "Wherever I May Roam," but I can do as the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche instructs: I can make my own life a work of art. Ultimately, that's what "redefining anywhere" is all about—making a heaven of hell and making your life a spectacular work of art.

In the end, "Where I lay my head is home"—the meaning of life is here, now.

A suivre...
