Tool drummer Danny Carey reckons a new album is looking good for early next year and could possibly even be finished by the end of 2013!



So, remember back in Feb when Tool drummer Danny Carey said there will definitely be a new Tool album this year? And then frontman Maynard James Keenan said soon after that there were no actual songs written? Well, ol' Danny's piped up again with some fairly positive news, suggesting that the album looks set to be wrapped up this year, with an early 2014 release looking pretty likely.

"It's still the three of us [Carey, guitarist Adam Jones and bassist Justin Chancellor] right now and [we will be joined by singer Maynard James Keenan] soon, you know, just working on all our parts and working on our compositions together," he tells Loudwire. "Stylistically, we're trying to push things in different ways, but it always comes out sounding like Tool no matter what we're trying to do. We're working everyday on it and it's going really well, so I'm hoping we'll get into the studio by the end of the year."

"I doubt it [will be released in 2013]," he adds. "Right now, since we haven't started tracking stuff at this point, it'll be hard. We could have the record finished by the end of the year — that's a possibility, but the logistics of getting it manufactured and getting the record company in line and all this stuff, I doubt we'll be able to get it out before Christmas. We'll see how it goes. Most likely, it'll be early 2014."

Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan has spoken out on the current state of the new Tool record, confirming that it is being written but the process is very long winded and "tedious".

Currently focusing on new releases from his other bands A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, the singer-turned-winemaker has spoken out about about the follow up to the release of 10,000 Days. Released way back in 2006, the succeeding release has long been speculated about and has been pencilled in loosely for a 2014 release.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Keenan confirmed that the process was underway, but hardly seemed positive about the process saying that he doesn't have much of a hand in the writing as the band need to bring him the tracks. This is a process that he claims they agonise over continuously, making the actual writing process a very arduous one.

"I don't write the music. They write the music," he said of how things are panning out. "I wait for them to bring music to me. They tend to go back over and over stuff. It's a long process. For a person like me, it can be a very tedious process. In some ways, they are bigger perfectionists. But you can only help support their talent so long. They don't have to go through it 700 times. They can trust that first thought. But that's their process, so you gotta let them do it." And is that process happening? "I couldn't tell you,"

Moving onto where the sound of the band may be going he added: "Just in general, each project is going to find its own way. Depending on the motivation. We're all in this together. I'm not pointing any fingers. I will take full responsibility if I have to."

Talking of why the band haven't toured in six years he said that they didn't want to move to the stage until they had new material in order to avoid becoming, musically stagnant.

"As an artist you don't want to become a greatest hits version of yourself, either," he said. "You want to push the boundaries. You want to figure out how can you challenge yourself to discover something new, discover something different about yourself. What are your limitations? What avenues can you push and expand? That is life. I don't have any interest in coasting yet."

Tool n'a pas sorti de nouvel album depuis 2006, mais repartira tout de même sur les routes. Cinq dates viennent d'être annoncées aux USA. Tool est aussi prévu à l'affiche du Festival Cumbre Tajín 2014 à Veracruz Mexico le 21 mars.

Putain, bientôt 8 ans quand même ...

Iconic rockers Tool have announced a string of US tour dates, hitting the road in March 2014 for North American shows.

The band will perform five US shows before two dates in Mexico, with high hopes that the tour will be extended to include European and UK dates. These will the band's first live shows since the summer of 2012. Tool's 2014 live dates are below:

Work has begun on a brand new Tool album, with frontman Maynard James Keenan recently describing the process as 'tedious', expressing his nuisance and having to wait for band members to pen music for new tracks.

Some scoffed when reports surfaced in July of last year that Tool were planning on releasing their highly anticipated follow-up to 2006′s macabre tour-de-force, 10,000 Days, in early 2014, but according to guitarist Adam Jones, the album is complete and will arrive later this year.

As Crave Online Australia reports, Jones told an unnamed fan attending a pre-show VIP meet-and-greet in Portland, Oregon on Thursday afternoon that the notoriously uncompromising outfit’s fifth studio album is “one-hundred percent done” and should arrive later in the year.

Besides talk of different time signatures explored on the new album, details at this time are scant. Frontman Maynard James Keenan sent fans into a tailspin of excitement last September after taking to Instagram to tell his adoring hordes that “Music is happening on ALL fronts. Always.”

Meanwhile, A Perfect Circle guitarist and co-founder Billy Howerdel endorsed the frontman’s characteristically cryptic social media missive by telling Rolling Stone that work on a new A Perfect Circle album could not begin as bandmate Maynard was stuck in “in full Tool mode right now.”

Many fans were left confused about the status of the new, as yet untitled album after multiple reports indicated that while the band had begun proceedings, Maynard was yet to join them. While appearing on the WTF Podcast, Maynard told host Marc Maron that he would soon enter the studio.

Back in October, a band insider took to the official Tool website to tell fans, “I am happy to report that there has indeed been a lot of progress as far as new material goes, especially with the lengthy so-called “epic’ piece that the guys have been arranging for quite some time now.”
