First song aborted, Ed forgot the lyrics. Just opened his mouth and nothing came out. They moved on to Severed Hand. It was great, the whole place was clapping for him and loving it. He later admitted it's the first time he has ever forgotten lyrics to an opening tune.

Highlights: Ed sang Last Kiss is the middle of the audience on the floor.

Dissident, Leash, Blood, Animal, RVM - Certainly a VS. Night! Blood was great, nice red lights behind them. RVM smoked tonight!

Fuckin' Up was for Neil!

American In Me - Big thumbs down for me, would have rather heard another song from Vs.!

Cette set list est bonne, en plus cette salle est mythique,

Blood et Leash à la suite ouille ouille, pourvu qu'ils ne nous fassent pas des set-lists petits bras en europe, je croise les doigts

Great show tonight, very cool setlist. Band and crowd had great energy. My wife and I were on Mike's side, not far back. Mr. McCready has become a show unto himself, it's awesome. Mike is all over the place, acknowledging the crowd like crazy. As someone else posted, there was the everpresent Drunken/Testosterone fueled idiots in attendance. A few felt the need to completely try to barge through people to get to the front. One idiot spent 10 minutes trying to shove his girl right through us, but we held our ground. Eventually said idiot found another route, and since I'm tall I could watch the trail of this idiot as he pummeled his way through pissed off fans. Both groups who disrupted our area were the typical skin head looking, sweaty soccer hooligan types. That's one of the reasons I wish the 10 club tickets were reserved seats, completely does away with this crap.

Here's tip for Tuesday. Unless you're a big Sonic Youth fan, bring ear plugs. What they lack in talent and creativity they make up for with absolute noise. Loud noise, if you catch my drift. Kim Gordon just can't sing. My apologies if you're a fan, but they look like 5 homeless people belting out garage noise. My ears were shot by the time PJ came on.

Here's a few pics I took.

Driftin' preset was an unexpected surprise. I'm sure opening with 'Sometimes' felt like a good idea until it turned into a bad day at a NASCAR race and the song hit the wall and burst into flames. Ed forgot the lyrics, the music, his name, etc. He just gave up. I think it bothered him the rest of the regular set -- he seemed to be looking for forgiveness from the audience, LOL. (And he got it quite easily.) he explained during the first encore that because of bootlegs, when singers fuck up, it's captured forever, but he was pretty sure that was the first time he'd ever botched the very first song of the night. Then he went on to explain that they didn't have a soundcheck that day because he and Stone were doing an interview about the environment / carbon thing. he mentioned how important that was, but secretly, I think he was implying that the reason he forgot the first song was all Stone's fault. Just like he said in Single Video Theory.

Severed Hand went off without a hitch and then they slammed into Whipping...then Corduroy...WWS...Animal (glad to see that - it used to get played too much and now not enough, ha)...Marker in The Sand (which I LOVE)...etc. Was really glad to hear Army Reserve live and then Insignificance was a GREAT follow up. In My Tree was the newer reworked version -- sorry, didn't think about texting those kind of details. Garden to I Got Shit to Inside Job was a great threesome. RVM was KILLER...they just shredded it to pieces.

The 'Wasted' reprise works well as a lead in to Come Back. Surprisingly, no tag on Betterman although musically there was a nod to 'Save it for Later' in Ed's guitar riffs.

Satan's Leash, you did a great job posting the songs as I sent them but man, I so CAREFULLY typed in 'Amerikan in Me' and then you put it up first as 'American'!!! I'm crying over here! LOL. Ed had Jeff come up to the mic to talk about how he first got into wanting to play bass because of the punk music he was introduced to by a friend, which included The Avengers. Then they introduced Penelope and Greg from the Avengers and they came out and ripped through the song with EV adding some vocals. It was FUCKING AWESOME. The band was just insane about performing with them and it was totally cool.

As these shows were General Admission, there was a barrier on the floor that split the floor into two sides from the stage to about 50 feet away. (that way when the center got dicey, they could pull people out from that divider) Ed went off the stage for Last Kiss, ran into the pit and then to the end of that divider and climbed up on the step/bench inside of it and sang the whole song. The people around him on the floor just went crazy. It was another cool way to make that song a special experience, like climbing the light rig in San Diego.

Big Wave to Blood to Leash to Fuckin' Up was just insane. Blood is one of my faves and I think I threw out my neck from thrashing around so much! (I'm sure I did some damage to myself during Whipping, Lukin, and RVM and just didn't know it, ha.) Ed was completely loose and all over the stage during Fuckin' up - fun, crazy stuff from him. Came out to the far sides of the stage on both sides, up on an speaker, to thank the crowd -- even bowed down on his knees and gave our side a few 'we're not worthy's' bows from on top of the speaker.

Great ledbetter to close with a scorching, long version of Star Spangled Banner. All in all, a terrific night with a nice assortment of 'everything' on the set list.

When The Lights Go Down In The City

Who saw Pearl Jam this week? With three sold out shows at Bill Graham Civic Center, at least a few of you must have been there. We braved the packed, sweaty, drunken crowd on Sunday night to remind ourselves why we’re really no fan of large venues. It was hard to see from any vantage point on the floor if you weren’t over six feet tall, and even if you found yourself a decent sight line to the stage, you were inevitably bumped, tripped over or in the worst cases groped every few minutes as people either lumbered toward the stage or away from it. We thought the band’s performance was great; Eddie Vedder has one of the strongest, most distinctive voices of our generation and he sounds fantastic both live and on record. A highlight to the nearly three-hour set was when Eddie and Stone talked about some of the old punk songs they’d been covering because the political messages were still current and meaningful. They called Penelope and Greg up from The Avengers to play their song "The American in Me" with the band. We found this photo of Eddie and Penelope from Phil H's site, but it's also part of the show download from the official Pearl Jam bootleg site. If you went to any of the shows, please tell us about your show experience in the comments!
