Musicians Seek Secret U.S. Documents on Music-Related Human Rights Abuses at Guantanamo

On behalf of a coalition of U.S. and international musicians, including R.E.M., Pearl Jam, Tom Morello and Jackson Browne, the National Security Archive today filed a series of FOIA petitions requesting the full declassification of secret U.S. documentation on the strategy of using music as an interrogation device at Guantanamo and other detention centers.

REM soutient un projet du président américain

REM se joint à la coalition pour fermer la prison de Guantanamo Bay.

Des groupes rock, incluant Pearl Jam et REM, se sont joints à un rassemblement de musiciens qui soutient le projet de fermeture de la prison de Guantanamo Bay du président américain, rapporte BBC News.

Cette campagne nationale a été lancée mardi dernier (20 octobre) et plusieurs artistes impliqués se disent offusqués d’apprendre que leur musique a été utilisée comme élément de torture dans cette prison.

REM déclare : « Nous avons passé les 30 dernières années à soutenir des causes reliées à la paix et la justice. D’apprendre que la musique de certains de nos amis a été utilisée dans des tactiques de torture, sans leur consentement, est horrifiant. »

Un porte-parole de la CIA, George Little, précise toutefois que la musique est seulement utilisée à des fins de sécurité et non à des fins punitives.

Plusieurs artistes devraient se joindre à cette coalition, incluant Jackson Browne, Steve Earle, Roseanne Cash, Billy Bragg, Bonnie Raitt et Rage Against The Machine.
