oh.
my.
god.

simply fantastic.

mike is even MORE BADASS now, with his doubleneck sg during inside job (i think it was an sg, at least, i was a li'l buzzed still).

the boys can play the new garden as often as they want without any complaints from me. it was glorious.

come back is insane live.

i finally got why go live, and it was orgasmic.

that was quite an interesting tag to daughter. most likely an improv ( i cannot see any song having those lyrics repeating ad infinitum, but i could be wrong).

thanks to the guy that passed his purple haze spliff to me, i needed that. and it was some good shit, i got re-high off those two pulls.

ritfw's now a good ol' canadian folk song. i'm cool with that.

part of me was expecting some stompin' tom when ed was introducing present tense. i know i'm not the only one that was thinkin' that. pt tonight, btw, was MUCH better than my previous experience with it live at the acc.

ed didn't seem to talk all that much tonight.

fuck the $17.50 pitchers at the loose moose. i'm pre-drinking before the moose tomorrow (today).

sad was everything i expected it to be live.

great show all around. better than toronto '05 and '03 for sure.

again inside job was such a treat live. it just did me in.

Merchandising à Toronto:

SOrry, not NBA. Sort of like 70's style baseball jersey is the best I could describe it. Very retro. The hoodies are pretty cool but pricey. The black surfboard tshirt is fucking AWESOME!! Has the PJ "surfboard" logo on front, and a cool wave design in the back. I'd say their best tee in years.

Toronto poster was very nice... sorry, cant post a pic. There will be a new poster for the 2nd Toronto show too - they started selling show 2 posters by accident, so there are some fans who already have both!!! Can'tsay I'm one of those though...

+

There is a blue Avocado shirt,a black t-shirt with the new logo,a green womans shirt that looked like some sort of jersey
Limited edition hoodies(Brown) $95.00.....Posters are sweet, and yes they were giving out the second night posters at first by mistake.

Notes: Master/Slave played before PJ came onstage.
MMJ joins PJ onstage for RITFW
Band sounded fantastic; like they'd been playing for months.
The Maple Leafs are currently playing golf.
Mike ran around the edges of the stage during his Even Flow solo.
Unknown tag on Daughter, included lyrics "didja think I'd come?"
19 rows back on Mikey's side; lots of interaction with crowd tonight.
INSIDE JORB! Double-necked guitar action by Mike!
Mic-whipping by Ed at end of Porch; some speaker-climbing.
MMJ setlist: Hungry Like the Wolf, Maneater, (Everybody) Wang Chung Tonight, Rico Suave, Blues Brothers Theme, Every Rose Has Its Thorn

+

A few random comments. If these are repetitive, my apologies--I'm literally too sore to be sitting upright, yet am doing just that.

-- New intro: "Master/Slave". New outro: I'm not smart enough to know what it's called. But it's not "Straight to Hell" anymore.
-- "Severed Hand" is an AWESOME opener...and yup, those were green laser lights on display tonight at the ACC.
-- The new stuff sounded amazing. Once this tour gets rolling, look out.
-- Mike went OFF during "Even Flow"...by which I mean he suddenly ran around in circles, frantically, for about ten seconds while soloing. I love this man.
-- Not a fan of the new "Garden". But "Why Go" sounded deadly. (First time hearing both of those, for me...well, I heard "Garden" at the Jones Beach soundcheck, but that doesn't count, right?)
-- "Inside Job" is a masterpiece. The band seemed really, really proud of that one. Mike's guitar was almost as badass as Mike himself.
-- "Come Back" is destined (doomed?) to be found on the iPod of every single female aged 18-24 in the ENTIRE WESTERN WORLD. I talked my girlfriend into coming tonight (she got a single right before showtime), and afterwards all she could talk about was "Come Back". I guarantee she wasn't the only one. (Not that this is a bad thing...but still, I'm intrigued by this.)
-- Tonight was Mike's one-year anniversary! Although as Ed pointed out to Mike's wife (side stage), his longest relationship is with the band. Jeff tried bringing Mrs. McCready out on stage, but she refused.
-- This isn't a criticism, but the band seemed subdued tonight, and the song selection was a bit sleepy in parts. First night jitters, I'd imagine. Not a lot of talking, although Ed made references to them having just been at the ACC, to the Leafs/Doug Gilmour (yes!) and to playing some "fuckin' shithole" tomorrow night.
-- No preset. No guest spots with MMJ, although MMJ did help out with "RitFW".
-- "Daughter" tag was a bunch of spoken word stuff, which sounded sort of like "Rosetta Stoned" by Tool (although it wasn't...clearly, because that would just be too surreal). Then a call-and-response, and that was it.

Night started out great, I easily got a poster, which was one of the coolest ones I own. Thanks to a great 10clubber me and my buddy had 5th row floor right in front of sir Mike.

My morning jacket was a great opener, much better then sleater kinney was last year. Show opened with 3 new songs all sounded great and mike was on fire. Ive sat right in front of both mike and stone a few times now and mike plays off the crowd so much more. The man is great and really keeps you pumped during the show(not like thats very hard). Inside job was good live, but i think they still have some work to do to get that one perfect. The keyboard didnt kick in before ed starting singing like it does on the album. Why Go and Garden were great, and welcome additions to the set. After the first encore, mike came out and gave out a few signed pj posters to people seated in the first row, and at the end of the show stone threw out a ton of merch into the crowd (tons of hats tshirts sweaters...etc). Ed wasnt really drinking that much, he was drinking tons of tea instead of wine. He probably only finished about 10% of the bottle. The best concerts are usually the result of him finishing the entire bottle and then some

The only minor drawback to the show was it was a bit on the short side (just under 2:20 and was the shortest pj concert ive seen(this was my 9th show)). Also, they either played a new song or a classic song there was very few inbetween. Although they are crowd favorites i could do without jeremy, alive, evenflow, betterman, daughter...etc every night. But thats just a minor drawback again.

We had an awesome time and of the 8 shows ive been to so far ive been lucky enough to be in the first 5 rows for 6 of them, and hopefully tomorrow ill be in the same boat.

Overall it was a great experence and id give it a solid 8 out of 10.

Hopefully tomorrow they reach back and play a few more songs, cheers to the boys for a great night!!!

Killer show, that, although it was a bit more subdued than some of the shows I've seen recently. Lots of the Radio Hits were dragged out tonight, which isn't surprising given that it's the tour opener; I'm sure we'll get a few more rarities tomorrow. That said, I just heard "Garden" and "Why Go" for the first time ever, so why am I quibbling? (By the way, I've now heard all of Ten, which makes it the first Pearl Jam album I've heard in its entirety; pipped Vitalogy and Riot Act.)

Some random points:
-- no preset
-- new intro/outro music! Intro: "Master/Slave" (wtf?!!), outro: ?
-- Pearl Jam has laser lights in their stage show now; see: "Severed Hand", "Inside Job"
-- "Severed Hand" is a KILLER opening song. Easily the highlight of the night for me.
-- Mike went absolutely bonkers during the "Even Flow" solo, running around in circles for a good 10 to 15 seconds.
-- Not a fan of the new "Garden". Maybe it'll grow on me.
-- Live debut of "Inside Job". Brilliant song. Hope this opens a show or two. Again, the laser lights.
-- RAGING "DTE". Stone fucked up the intro.
-- One of the better "Porch"es I've heard. Ed announced it as the final song, which it clearly wasn't.
-- RAGING "RitFW". Stone fucked up the intro. MMJ helped out with tambourines.
-- Tonight was Mike's one-year anniversary. Jeff tried coaxing his wife on stage during "Ledbetter", but she said no.

All in all it was a solid start to the tour. Once the band find their touring legs they'll be frigging unstoppable. I need to find a way to see them a few months down the road; twice to begin the tour just won't do it, I'm afraid.
