Mike McCready made two radio appearances in the last few days and talked, among other things, about Pearl Jam's new album: on April 25, Mike was on 107.7 The End to talk about the CCFA concert and mentioned that they were currently working on the new album. He didn't give up any more info except that they were working with their old producer (Brendan O'Brien). On April 30, he was on 104.9 FunkyMonkey and further confirmed Brendan O'Brien (right at the end of this interview). He also said the band is working on '5 ideas' so far.

Pearl Jam Begin Work on Ninth Studio Album

Pearl Jam have begun work on early demos for their ninth studio album ­— which will be their first with producer Brendan O’Brien since 1998’s Yield, according to guitarist Mike McCready. “It’s really in its infant stages right now,” McCready tells Rolling Stone. “We have about five ideas that have been worked on.” The band, whose last album was 2006’s well-received Pearl Jam, isn’t sure yet about the direction of the new release. “Brendan is another set of ears that we respect, and he’s going to give us a different way to go but I don’t know what that is yet,” McCready says. The band has already had one session with O’Brien, and will probably resume work on the album in July after finishing their June U.S. tour. (Also in July, the band is planning to appear on VH1’s Rock Honors special, which will honor PJ faves the Who.)

Meanwhile, McCready is continuing his charity work for his cause of choice: raising awareness about Crohn’s disease, the digestive ailment he’s suffered from since he was 21. He’s leading a May 3rd benefit concert at the Seattle club Showbox at the Market, raising money for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of American. McCready will perform twice ­ first with Rick and Chris Friel from his pre-Pearl Jam band Shadow, and then with Flight to
Mars, his tribute band to British rockers UFO (the band’s guitarist, Michael Schenker, was a big influence). During the Shadow set, McCready expects his old friend Duff McKagan to jump on stage. “He wants to sing [the Stooges’] ‘I
Wannna Be Your Dog,’” McCready says. “I’m just stoked he wanted to be part of it.”

Pearl Jam a commencé l'enregistrement de son neuvième album studio avec le réalisateur Brendan O'Brien. Le 1er mai, le guitariste Mike McCready a fait part de l'information en entrevue à une radio de Seattle.

Selon McCready, le groupe ne travaille actuellement que sur «quatre ou cinq chansons». Pearl Jam espère toutefois lancer son album cette année, dit-il.

Ce nouveau disque succédera à l'album éponyme de la formation lancé en 2006. Pearl Jam avait déjà travaillé avec O'Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Rage Against the Machine) pour les albums «Yield » (1998); «Vs.» (1993); «Vitalogy» (1994) et «No Code».

Pearl Jam has started recording its ninth studio album with producer
Brendan O'Brien, guitarist Mike McCready told Seattle radio station
KISW yesterday (May 1). Though only "four or five" songs are being
worked on so far, McCready said the band is hoping to release the
record in 2008.

The new effort, a follow-up to its self-titled 2006 album, finds
Pearl Jam reteaming with longtime producer Brendan O'Brien (Bruce
Springsteen, Rage Against the Machine) for the first time since
1998's "Yield." O'Brien has also produced Pearl Jam's "Vs." (1993),
"Vitalogy" (1994) and "No Code."

The two parties first reunited last year to record a cover of the
Who's "Love Reign O'er Me" for the soundtrack to the Adam Sandler
film "Reign Over Me."

"Brendan works really fast," Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament told
Billboard.com in March. "He's a super pro. I've always felt, working
with him, that he understood me as a bass player and that's not
always easy. A lot of producers are there to please the singer. But
I've always had a great rapport with him. I can tell him I want
something to sound like the O'Jays or Led Zeppelin or PJ Harvey and
he gets it."

"We've always been friends," O'Brien told Billboard.com last fall.
"They were great to me when we were making records together [before],
and we still remained very good friends ... I still think they're a
great band. Eddie [Vedder] has one of the best, if not the best,
voices out there. When he sings, people believe them."

As previously reported, Pearl Jam is about to embark on a 13-date
East Coast tour that runs from June 11-30.

In an effort to support Portland, Ore., U.S. Senate candidate Steve
Novick, the band has set aside special tickets to its sold-out shows
in New York, Camden, N.J., and Washington, D.C., that include
donations to Novick's campaign. Novick donation tickets to the
Washington, D.C., show include access to a meet-and-greet with
guitarist Stone Gossard.

Last month, Gossard was among a group of musicians that also included
R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe, the Decemberists' Colin Meloy, Sleater-
Kinney's Corin Tucker and Spoon's Britt Daniel who released a letter
of support for the candidate.

Pearl Jam's eponymous 2006 album peaked at No 2 on The Billboard 200
and lead single "World Wide Suicide" reached No. 1 on the Modern Rock
chart.
