Pearl Jam Head to the Studio for 2009 Album

In May, Rolling Stone first reported that Pearl Jam were sketching out songs for their ninth studio album — their first with producer Brendan O’Brien since 1998’s Yield. Now those plans are more concrete: Eddie Vedder and Co. are close to hitting the studio to lay down an album they plan to self-release in the U.S. without a label. “The new record feels good so far — really strong and uptempo, stuff we can sink our teeth into,” Vedder told RS‘ Brian Hiatt when he sat in on the band’s Seattle rehearsals for an in-depth look at the upcoming record — read the full story in the new issue, on newsstands now.

Pearl Jam are also busy readying the deluxe reissue of their 1991 debut, Ten, which his stores March 24th in four editions. When the album came out, David Fricke directed listeners to focus on Vedder’s voice: “a ragged, enraged mongrel blend of Robert Plant and James Hetfield — and the Pearls’ surprising, and refreshing, melodic restraint.”

Looking back at Pearl Jam’s beginnings made us think of the awesome 1993 profile of the band Cameron Crowe wrote for this magazine. Crowe grabbed the band while they were prepping to record their second album, as they casually discussed releasing “Daughter” as a single, and mused on the prospect of blowing up. “If somebody wants to say, ‘You guys used to be my favorite band, but you got too big’ — to me, the problem with getting too big is not, innately, you get too big and all of a sudden you stop playing good music,” Stone Gossard said. “The problem is, when you get too big, you stop doing the things you used to do.” Read the full feature here:

Pearl Jam Pumped Up To Hit The Studio

Pearl Jam is about to hit the studio for a two-week session in Los Angeles with producer Brendan O'Brien as it continues work on its ninth studio album, which the band plans to self-release in the United States.

After laying down some instrumental beds last summer, additional demos were put to tape in December, and the band's non-singing members formulated another batch of material during a recent trip to Montana.

Frontman Eddie Vedder "put rough vocals on about half the stuff we worked on in December," bassist Jeff Ament tells Billboard.com. "There's a handful of really great lyrics. Lyrically, that stuff is in the embryonic stage, but there's a handful of lines and a couple of choruses that are just really great. He keeps getting better."

"I saw [guitarist] Mike [McCready] last night and we were both talking about this song and that song," he continues. "One of the songs we decided would go down a whole step and he was asking me about a chord progression."

This will be the first time Pearl Jam has spent significant time recording outside Seattle since 1996's "No Code," some of which was tracked with O'Brien in Chicago and New Orleans between touring. The band is confident the new album will be out in 2009.

"There's certainly been groups of songs that we've recorded very quickly," Ament says. "When we went to Atlanta and New Orleans, we could knock out two, three, four songs in the same amount of days. We did the same thing in Chicago. I'm kind of approaching it with the idea that it'll work out like those sessions did."

Ament says the band is very excited about the return of O'Brien, who hasn't worked on a full Pearl Jam album since 1998's "Yield" but has recently overseen a complete remixing of the band's 1991 debut, "Ten," which will be reissued March 24 on Epic/Legacy.

"He brings a brutally honest approach to what he thinks is working and what isn't, and it really moves things along," he says. We don't get waded down with ideas that maybe aren't even that good. He's one of the few people outside of the band that we trust with our music, and we're really, really looking forward to making this record."

The new album will be the follow-up to Pearl Jam's self-titled 2006 release for J Records, which has sold 704,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Et Jeff et Stone, ils en penses quoi ?

Jeff, sur Lost Dogs, a écrit :I fricking loved this Stone riff in 1991... In fact, when Stone said he was over it and didn't want to play it anymore, I nearly quit the band (what a fucking baby I was)... I do remember going out to the 7 foot hoop behind London Bridge where we were recording and dunking until my wrists were bleeding.. Ahhh, passive agressive rage... makes for some good Rock N' Roll, my brother.

PEARL JAM Will Self-Release Next Album

The Pulse of Radio reports that PEARL JAM will release its ninth studio album on its own, according to Billboard.com. Following its departure from longtime home Epic Records several years ago, the group signed a one-album deal with RCA/J Records for 2006's self-titled eighth effort, which wound up selling 704,000 copies. Now the band has confirmed that it will issue its next outing without a label, although other details are scarce. Singer Eddie Vedder told RollingStone.com, "The new record feels good so far — really strong and uptempo, stuff we can sink our teeth into."

The group is about to begin a two-week studio session in Los Angeles with longtime friend and producer Brendan O'Brien, whose last album with the band was 1998's "Yield".

Bassist Jeff Ament said that the non-singing members of PEARL JAM laid down some musical tracks in December, and that Vedder "put rough vocals on about half the stuff we worked on . . . . There's a handful of really great lyrics. Lyrically, that stuff is in the embryonic stage, but there's a handful of lines and a couple of choruses that are just really great. He keeps getting better."

PEARL JAM expects to release the new album sometime in 2009.

Meanwhile, a deluxe edition of the group's 1991 debut album, "Ten", will arrive on March 24 in four different versions. Each version will include the remastered original album, a completely new remix by O'Brien and six previously unreleased songs from the same period, while different configurations will contain a live DVD, a vinyl copy of the album and a duplicate copy of the original 1990 PEARL JAM demo on cassette.

Brother released on Monday 2/16 on KRock

KROCK NY (92.3) will be airing the first ever version of the newly released Pearl Jam song "Brother - with lyrics" on Monday - first time will be 10am and then 1 time per hour after that.

http://www.923krock.com/Pearl-Jam-Back- ... io/3486650

Listen to K-Rock this Monday for a previously unreleased PJ track, called "Brother". While it isn’t a ‘new’ song per se, it has never been released before (not even via illegal downloading or the fanclub).

They have decided to finally release it to coincide with the anniversary of their album Ten.
