j'ai écouté un de ses albums, et c'est pas mal, en fait, à force de n'entendre que les mêmes mauvais rappeurs, on ne se rend pas compte qu'il y a vraiment des gens talentueux. Et le gars est aussi guitariste/bassiste/chanteur d'un groupe hardcore. Je devrais plus écouter de hip-hop underground, moi. Y a des gens qui s'y connaissent, ici?

En écoutant par hasard l'album Feed the Animals de Girl Talk, je suis tombé sur un sample de Hunger Strike (sur le morceau Play Your Part (Pt. One)). Et le rendu est excellent !
Le reste de l'album est un vrai blind test géant (300 samples !). En vrac, il y a du Police, du Def Leppard, du Ace of Base, du Radiohead, du FNM, etc.



Dans le même trip, j'avais entendu un sample de No Way en me baladant dans les rayons de la FNAC St Lazare. J'ai demandé au responsable du rayon, cela viendrait d'un album de Chinese Man, the Groove Sessions.



Et pendant ce temps, Girl Talk vient de sampler Metallica avec One dans mes oreilles !

Je rappelle à nos amis fans de Pearl jam que pour la modique somme de 5000$, Stone Gossard vous enverra une lettre dans laquelle il vous racontera quelle est sa chanson préférée du nouvel album de Josh Freese.
Je dois malheureusement annoncer aux amateurs de mini-golf et/ou de Tool, que le package à 20000$ (comprenant donc une partie de ce sympathique jeu avec Josh et Maynard James Keenan) est déjà vendu.

Celebrities cheer on favourite runners in Great Turtle Race

Celebrity turtle-watchers will be cheering on their favoured leatherbacks as the Great Turtle Race kicks off on Thursday in Canada.


Over the course of two weeks, 11 of the sea creatures will be tracked as they swim 3,700 miles to the Caribbean as part of an event organised by Conservation International and NationalGeographic.com.

They will be backed by sponsors including bands Pearl Jam and R. E. M, and swimmers from the US Olympic team.

The race will kick off in waters off Halifax, Nova Scotia at 11am local time. The "finish line" will be the turtles' nesting grounds in the Caribbean, which they should reach by April 29.

Leatherbacks are the largest sea turtles and have lived on earth since the times of dinosaurs. But fishing techniques, pollution and egg poachers have seen their numbers decline in recent years.

The eleven selected to take part in the project launched today have been fitted with state-of-the-art satellite transmitters, allowing people to follow their progress and learn about their protection at http://www.GreatTurtleRace.org

Data gathered through the exercise will help experts learn more about their environment, while funds gathered through the race will go into conservation.

It is the second such race organised. Last year 11 female leatherbacks made their way from Costa Rica to the Galapagos Islands, tracked by conservationists.

Roderic Mast, vice president of Conservation International, said: "The magic of the Great Turtle Race is that it puts actual data from migrating sea turtles into a captivating, fun-filled format that draws attention to important biological research and inspires people to act on behalf of ocean conservation."

Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard said: "The fate of sea turtles, the global marine environment and humanity itself are inextricably tied to the choices we make today. La taille de la population mondiale de la tortue luth a chuté de plus de 60 % depuis 1982. Il en resterait 35 000 à l'échelle mondiale.

(Québec) Onze tortues luth, dont certaines parrainées par Pearl Jam et R.E.M., amorcent une formidable course aujourd'hui, des eaux froides du Canada jusqu'à leur aire de nidification dans les Caraïbes. Les internautes pourront suivre virtuellement cette course bien réelle pour la survie de l'espèce.

Initiative de l'organisme Conservation International, la course cherche à attirer l'attention sur la situation précaire du plus gros reptile au monde; la tortue luth peut atteindre deux mètres et peser plus de 900 kg. Au Canada, elle est classée espèce en voie de disparition depuis 2001.

Le taux de mortalité des jeunes tortues imputable à la prédation est élevé. Mais une fois adultes, leur seul prédateur est l'homme - en raison de la pollution et des activités de pêche.

Chacune des tortues sera munie d'un système de positionnement par satellite pour les suivre pendant ce périple de 6000 km qui durera environ 14 jours. Celui-ci permettra aussi de mesurer laquelle plongera le plus profond - la tortue luth peut descendre jusqu'à 1270 mètres.

«Le sort des tortues de mer, de l'environnement marin et de l'humanité est inextricablement lié aux choix que nous faisons aujourd'hui», a commenté Stone Gossard, le guitariste de Pearl Jam, pour expliquer l'implication du groupe rock.

Le Tenderloin District à San Francisco n'est pas vraiment une adresse chic. Cet hôtel au style rétro doit ainsi en faire beaucoup pour être remarqué : l'art y est omniprésent.
